In this post I will solve the OSINT exercise by Sofia Santos, I already solved the first two in my blog.
The exercise:
In April 2017 Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo, the then president of Somalia, visited Turkey. A news agency published a photo where he was seen shaking hands with Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, the country’s president. The article did not disclose where the photo was taken. Your task is to find out the name and coordinates of the location seen below.
Solution:
I opened the picture by itself provided in the exercise, this one, and did an image reverse search, i got different images of the president welcoming different dignitaries on the same place.
Because of its recurrent use its safe to say its some sort of government building with importance and relation to the president, so I googled "Turkey government building", I assumed that because of its importance it should probably show up.
I got images of the presidential palace, it could be it, the doors seem similar in the first picture but its too far to tell.
I googled "Turkey Presidential Palace" and in the search results i got a youtube video called "Turkish president Erdogan unveils his new palace of a thousand rooms"
and in the 0:07 second mark it shows this image:
To get the coordinates I entered in google maps"Turkish presidential palace" and it led
me there.
There's a door the the left side that leads to the inner garden and a door on the right side that's the entrance to the palace and is near the main road, both doors seem to be identical but considering this is a welcome to a foreign dignitary and the pictures where taken by the press its safe to assume that they were taken at the entrance, therefore the coordinates are around 39.931169163515676, 32.799730734886346.
The answer to this OSINT exercise is: The Turkish presidential palace, in the coordinates 39.931169163515676, 32.799730734886346.
